Dementia Champion: Lynda Henderson
Lynda Henderson cares for her friend Veda who was diagnosed with dementia in 2012.
Veda has a rare form of dementia which affects her speech, reading and writing.
Lynda has been outspoken about the medical, financial and emotional difficulties experienced by those living with dementia and their carers.
This includes providing evidence to the recent Aged Care Royal Commission.
Lynda says depression was a common experience among the many people living with dementia whom they've met since Veda was diagnosed.
She says Australia badly needs a review of national qualifications and career pathways for people working with those living with dementia.
Lynda is a Dementia Australia Advocate, a supporter of Dementia Alliance International and a member of the OPAN National Reference Group.
She and Dennis Frost are on the editorial board of the Australian Journal of Dementia Care, and continue to participate in co-designed research.
