Summer holiday closures

Some of Council's facilities will be closed or have different opening times over the summer holiday period, including our administration building which will close at 3pm on 24 December and reopen at 8.45am on 2 January.

Local Strategic Planning Statement

Council has adopted the Kiama Local Strategic Planning Statement (LSPS)(PDF, 6MB) to establish:

a 20-year vision for land use in our local area
the special characteristics that contribute to local identity
shared community values to be maintained and enhanced
how growth and change will be managed into the future.

The Kiama LSPS sits at the top of Council's planning documents and contains:

background information about the LSPS and Municipality
20-Year Vision for the municipality
Planning Priorities for the next 20 years, and
specific actions for achieving our Planning Priorities.

The Kiama LSPS contains actions to conduct comprehensive reviews of the:

Kiama Local Environmental Plan (LEP) 2011
Kiama Development Control Plan (DCP) 2012.

The Kiama LSPS needs to be consistent with Council's Community Strategic Plan (CSP) and the Illawarra Shoalhaven Regional Plan.

Engaging with the community and stakeholders has been vital in the development of the Kiama LSPS.

The overall program for the development of the LSPS involved 3 phases of community involvement:

Completed Phase 3 - Exhibition

The formal adoption process of the LSPS involves Council endorsement of a draft, statutory exhibition and Council resolution to adopt a final LSPS.

Completed Phase 2 - Community testing and draft preparation

Community testing phase including engagement with state agencies, peak groups and our community. It included discussion of options to address themes such as housing, employment, environment and agriculture, and the preparation of the draft LSPS.

Completed Phase 1 - Community scoping and vision

The first phase included workshops throughout November 2018 for community scoping and vision.
