This event allows residents to dispose of large bulky household items for free.

The 9-day event takes place twice a year at our Minnamurra Waste & Recycling Facility. Subscribe to this page (below) to receive updates and new dates.

Terms and conditions

By registering for this event, you agree to the following Terms and Conditions:

  • The registered property must be within the Kiama Municipality and pay our Domestic or Rural Waste Management Charge in the annual rates
  • Limited to one (1) drop off per household for this event
  • Proof of residency required on the day such as a driver's license, rates notice, or utility bill and shown to the Checkpoint staff onsite
  • Bookings are by the property, not the property owner, so if you are unable to attend, a representative can drop off on your behalf, as long as you have a booking for your address and your representative brings along proof of residency for your property
  • Total quantity equal to a standard box trailer or standard ute (maximum 2m3)
  • No trucks permitted
  • All materials must be loose or in unsealed boxes. No bagged items will be accepted
  • Batteries
    • Items with any batteries MUST BE removed from the item, if possible, before dropping off at the event
    • If unable to remove batteries from item, please notify staff on site before disposing of item.

Conditions of entry at the Minnamurra Waste and Recycling Facility:

  • Follow all signs and directions given by authorised personnel
  • Proof of residency is required to enter the site and participate in the event
  • Obey all traffic rules, including speed limits and signs
  • Give way to all operating site machinery
  • Wear enclosed footwear
  • Dispose of each item in the correct location, following the signage and direction of staff
  • Children attending the Up4Grabs Shed must be supervised by an adult at all times
  • Children are to remain inside your vehicle in all other areas
  • Animals, smoking, vaping, consumption of alcohol, lighting fires, unlawful entry and scavenging are prohibited
  • Offensive and abusive language and/or aggressive behaviour will not be tolerated. The site is monitored with CCTV surveillance cameras.

Not accepted items:

  • Fibro or asbestos
  • bean bags and bean bag filling (ie. polystyrene balls)
  • building and demolition waste
  • garden waste (unless fees paid)
  • household garbage and food scraps
  • pane/sheet glass and mirrors including furniture with glass or mirrors
  • toxic chemicals and hazardous waste including fuel
  • tyres
  • waste from commercial premises (shops or offices)
  • solar panels.

Accepted items:

  • lounges
  • furniture
  • toys
  • baby goods
  • sporting goods
  • bikes
  • garden equipment
  • white goods (except fridges and freezers)
  • electrical goods
  • crockery and homewares
  • carpet, rugs and blinds
  • cds, dvds and books
  • mattresses (limit 2 per household)
  • items for the Community Recycling Centre.
