2024 NSW Local Government elections

Next date: Saturday, 14 September 2024 | 09:00 AM to 05:00 PM

The next election for the Municipality of Kiama will take place on 14 September 2024. 

In the four weeks preceding the date of an ordinary election, Councils enter a caretaker period. The caretaker period for this election starts midnight Friday 16 August 2023 and ends on Friday 13 September 2023.

Nominations

Registration of candidate and group nominations open 8am, 5 August 2024 and close 12pm, 14 August 2024.

Referendum

This election will also include a local referendum on whether Kiama Municipality will directly elect its Mayor at subsequent Local Government elections. It will ask voters the question:

The Mayor of Kiama Municipality is currently elected every two (2) years by the nine (9) Councillors. Do you want to change to the direct (popular) election of the Mayor by the voters of the Kiama Municipality, for a four (4) year term?

Note: regardless of the outcome of this referendum, Kiama Municipality will continue to have nine (9) Councillors, including the Mayor.
