Jamberoo sports lighting upgrade
- Project typeSports lighting upgrade
- Project value$420,000
Kiama Council is upgrading lighting at Kevin Walsh Oval and Keith Irvine Oval in Jamberoo.
The sports fields serve as vital hubs for the community, hosting activities like youth soccer, cricket, and touch football at Keith Irvine oval, and rugby league, cricket, and touch football at Kevin Walsh oval.
The current lighting makes it difficult for the ovals to host night competitions.
The project includes retrofitting of new lights at both ovals, as well as installing three new lighting poles and fixtures.
The new lighting meets Lighting Level 2 standards, suitable for club-level night competitions, while minimizing skyglow and light spill to nearby residents.

In addition, 10 solar-powered bollard lights will be installed along footpaths at the ovals, improving visibility for pedestrians accessing the fields during the evening.
With the improved lighting, these sports can now safely continue into the evening, benefiting both players and spectators.
The lighting upgrade is part of KMC’s ongoing commitment to improving local sports facilities and ensuring they can be enjoyed year-round.
Funding for the oval lighting upgrade was provided by the NSW Office of Sports ($352,175).
Funding for accessway lighting was co-funded by the Australian Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program ($48,500) and Kiama and District Sports Association ($19,412.36).
