The Bombo Headland Eco Walk will provide a staircase linking the Bombo Quarry to adjacent walking tracks and beaches.

This will allow walkers to explore the headland in its entirety and will provide a spectacular vista of the coast that will attract more visitors to the area.

The staircase design includes a viewing platform for people to enjoy the ocean views south towards Blowhole Point, and a channel to wheel bikes up.

The design also takes into account the heritage of the site, including its Aboriginal and European heritage, geology and vegetation.

The 13-metre staircase will include colours and textures to complement the iconic basalt cliffs and rock formations of the Quarry.

This project is fully funded by the NSW Government’s Restart NSW fund.

Update

Kiama Council contractors are finalising the required rectification work on the Bombo Quarry staircase to achieve final certifications to confirm compliance with the National Construction Code and relevant Australian Standards.

The Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 prohibits use or occupation of structures until final certifications are issued. Due to legal and insurance requirements, the stairs will remain closed to the public until final certifications can be completed.

Once this is done, Council will be able to formally open the stairs, which is estimated to occur around February 2025.
