My congratulations to the Kiama Show Society for providing an amazing program for the 2025 Kiama Show.

Since 1859, Kiama Council and the Kiama Show Society has formed what can only be called a long and lasting friendship.

This friendship remains as strong as ever.

Council again assisted the Show Society by waiving the normal ground hire and other fees and charges and provided in-kind support such as waste management.

We also, for the first time, provided direct extra financial support via a grant from our tourism arm, Destination Kiama.

This reflects the fundamental importance of the Kiama Show to the fabric of our community, as well as the significant economic injection it gives our local economy each and every January.

I’m also happy to report that we’ve now completed the Kiama Showground renewals we started back in October 2020.

As usual we have our own Member for Kiama, Gareth Ward, to thank for unlocking the money jar for this project.

Over the last four years we’ve been able to invest $750,000 dollars into what is easily the most beautiful showground in Australia.

The upgrades include new sports field lighting, replacing the old horse stables and the post and rail fencing, installing new seating and purchasing new mobile grandstands.

These improvements mean the Kiama Showgrounds can continue to host this iconic annual event for many more years to come.

Like other institutions such as Anzac Day, our agricultural shows continue to evolve, drawing in new generations celebrating the rich history and ongoing importance of our farming sector to this nation.

As they say: The Show must go on!
