Community Renewables Program EOI
Published on 20 June 2024
Kiama Council as a member of the Illawarra Shoalhaven Joint Organisation (ISJO) is seeking partnerships with renewable energy service providers to develop and deliver a Community Renewables Program.
The Community Renewables Program is intended to support a community transition to renewable energy.
The Program will provide guidance on suitable renewable energy generation and storage systems, as well as support community access to equitable and affordable renewable energy through rooftop solar, battery systems and distributed energy networks.
This includes:
- reducing the up-front cost barriers to renewable energy technologies
- building trust between Council, the community and the private sector by collaboratively developing tailored renewable energy solutions for households and businesses
- providing access to high quality solar and battery system materials, software and servicing
- stimulating the local economy by generating jobs for local clean energy service providers
- reducing ongoing energy costs for residents and businesses.
Kiama Council and our fellow ISO councils are seeking partnerships with established renewable energy providers to achieve the goals of the Community Renewables Program.
The partnership involves proposing suitable renewable energy system designs for households and businesses, defining pricing and finance models for diverse customer needs, maximising local procurement for goods and services, and recommending long-term integration initiatives.
The Community Renewables Program is part of work by ISJO councils to mitigate impacts of climate change and assisting local communities to reach the NSW Government target of net zero emissions by 2050.
Kiama Council has developed a Corporate Emissions Reduction Program to reduce emissions for our operations, facilities and services to net zero by 2031.
The next stage is developing a Community Emissions Reduction Plan to target community emissions generated in the LGA.
