Akuna Street Development Application
Published on 01 February 2024
A Development Application for the Akuna Street Site, owned by Level 33 property group, has been lodged with Council for assessment.
The application proposes a multi storey mixed use development and includes:
- 344 basement car parking spaces
- 24 retail premises
- 2 supermarkets; and
- 82 shop-top residential units.
Utilising the new vision, controls and height options within Council’s recently adopted Development Control Plan, the proposal also includes protection of the heritage listed house and connections through to Terralong Street, new access laneways and areas of public open space.
Council must now undertake the assessment process which occurs in line with legislation and Council policy. The process will be managed by our senior planning staff (Director and Manager) at Council, in conjunction with an external consultant.
The community will be invited to have their say on the proposal through the formal “Exhibition Process”, which will run for two weeks and is expected to commence in late February or early March. This is a legislated process for assessment and notification of applications.
Given the value and scope of the development the application it will also be assessed, and the final decision made by the Southern Regional Planning Panel. The Southern Regional Planning Panel is a group of experts appointed by the State Government and Council to determine regional significant development applications.
Council’s CEO Jane Stroud said: “I am pleased to see this development application submitted to Council for assessment.”
“I know the community have been keen to see what would be proposed on this prominent site, following the sale of the land by Council.”
“It is great to see the owner reaching a stage of being able to lodge an application with Council for assessment.”
“I know the community will be interested in what the development includes. I encourage the community to view the document during the exhibition process to form their own views and provide submissions to Council for consideration through the process. “
