History and facts

The Kiama Youth Centre opened in 1993. Located in Hindmarsh Park, Kiama, it has been known over the years as Kiama Youth Resource Centre, The Cottage or the Youfie. During these years, the Centre has had many awards & achievements to add to the individual successes on a daily basis. Our photo gallery is our/your record.

The Cottage

The Youth Centre, known as The Cottage, is staffed by two full time youth workers plus a team of casuals assisting in a variety of projects. An average of 4000 young people utilise the space each year with a balance of men and women.

With around 15 to 20 programs offered to young people each year, we are also involved directly with Council's future youth services and activities. It is the only youth centre open every weekend in the Illawarra and we also offer the most drop in hours. Drop In averages 80 - 100 people each week.

Kiama Youth Centre regularly holds Rock Concerts and Dance Parties at venues such as the Gerringong Town Hall, Kiama Showground Pavilion, Hindmarsh Park and the Kiama Skate Park. Audiences at some of these events have been in excess of 300 young people. All these events are drug and alcohol-free.

Amy's Cottage Gallery

Mayor Councillor Sandra McCarthy offically opened Amy's Cottage Gallery on the 26th of February 2004. The Gallery was inspired by suggestions from local youth artist Amy Starling to create a unique youth artspace in Kiama. So far it has held two successful exhibitions.
